PROJECT AREYA is hoping to be a registered charity in Canada and in the province of Quebec.
PROJECT AREYA will serve two purposes.
1) To educate adults on the benefits of therapy from both a mental illness perspective and self-improvement perspective.
2) To provide limited financial support to adults 30 years and older in the province of Quebec to begin their journey into therapy.
Please note as we are a new organization, we are currently working out how to best serve the local Montreal community.
As such, we are not accepting donations and applications for therapy assistance at this time. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
PROJECT AREYA was founded and established on July 2023.
About the founder of PROJECT AREYA
PROJECT AREYA FOUNDER
Pat(rick) Phutthavong founded PROJECT AREYA as a way to help adults of his age group get into professional therapy.
Pat is a survivor of a suicide attempt and has clinical depression. In his own words:
“I’ve been dealing with clinical depression for over a decade now. I survived my attempt at ending my life and while it hasn’t been a particularly enjoyable or even interesting journey, I very slowly fought my way back from the attempt.”
“Besides medication and follow-ups with medical doctors, therapy has been my lifeline to getting to where I want to be. I am very fortunate to be able to afford regular therapy sessions but I know many adults my age don’t have that luxury.”
“PROJECT AREYA will hopefully be able to help adults seeking help to begin their journey into therapy, whether it be for mental wellbeing or for personal self-improvement. If one is apprehensive about the idea of therapy, Project Areya will offer workshops and education on the benefits of therapy.”
“It will not be an easy journey. It requires vulnerability and a commitment to yourself. Everyone’s journey is different. But with the right approach, therapy can be life-changing. I’ve been in therapy for years now. There is always room for improvement as a human being and work to do towards a better life whether you suffer from mental illness or not.”
Pat lives in the greater Montreal area who makes a living as a web developer and moonlights as a graphic designer and a fashion designer for women’s clothing.
